About the Yarn
This yarn is our go-to favorite. As a single-ply yarn, it absolutely glows with color and is a wonderful choice for great stitch definition (especially for cables, texture, and lace). The fine, low-micron merino is amazingly soft, ideal for wearing next to the skin even for children and people sensitive to coarser wools. In the hands it's pillowy and light, with a slight crispness that helps stitches hold together and makes it very easy to work with.

About This Base's Sustainability
This yarn is 100% certified organic merino wool, meaning that it passes a very high bar for its environmental effects. You can read all about the Global Organic Textile Standards here, but in brief this wool has been produced in a sustainable manner, with careful attention paid to the welfare of the sheep and the land in each phase of production. It is important to note that while the fiber content is 100% organic merino and our dyes are also 100% GOTS compliant, our yarn is not considered organic (we are a very small business and currently it is too expensive to pursue organic certification, though this is a goal for the future).
We do adhere to the spirit of the standards and dye all of our yarns in a way that produces minimal waste, pH-neutral and non-toxic wastewater, and minimizes energy and water usage. And like all of our yarns, it is biodegradable and compostable.
